A superb and sumptuous 19th century quilt in a gorgeous variety of silks including brocades, checks and stripes, and silk velvets. The colours glow like jewels - an effect we haven’t managed to capture in our photographs. It is in good robust condition with a silk braid edging and a cotton lining, but is perhaps more suitable as a wall hanging than as a bed cover, though it does fit a standard double bed, as shown. There are about twenty of the hexagons in a pale grey silk which has split, and the plain cotton lining has some age marks, again as shown. It is all completely hand sewn - hours and days and weeks of work - and a gorgeous creation.
